NRS submission totals lookup tool

Long-tailed Tit nest. Elspeth Rowe

Here you can create a report showing how many nest records have been submitted to NRS for a selected year and area. Bear in mind that, for technical reasons, county summaries are based on Local Government Act 1972 county boundaries.

A report showing annual NRS species totals for Britain and Ireland is also available separately and includes information about which species are monitoring priorities for NRS.

You can also view a wide range of reports of ringing totals and recovery summaries by visiting the Online Ringing Report.

What is included

For most species, all valid nest records have been included in the totals. However, for some species that are considered rare or sensitive by the Rare Breeding Bird Panel (RBBP) and/or the Irish Rare Breeding Birds Panel (IRBBP), and where it was decided to map distributions at only the 50-km scale in the Bird Atlas 2007-11, nest record totals have been excluded from the county reports (but not the country reports) where appropriate.

Using the information

You are very welcome to use these reports in publications and talks, such as county bird reports, so long as the following acknowledgement is included:

The BTO Nest Record Scheme is funded by a partnership between the British Trust for Ornithology and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (on behalf of: Natural England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Northern Ireland).

The BTO supports nest recording for scientific purposes and all recording is undertaken following a code of conduct designed to ensure the welfare of birds and their nests are not adversely affected.
