Field Guide to the Ladybirds of Great Britain and Ireland

Ladybirds are arguably the most familiar group of beetles as far as the general naturalist is concerned, although many birdwatchers would struggle to name more than one or two species with any certainty.

This new guide will remedy this, with authoritative but well-written text supported by illustrations of the quality we have all come to expect from Richard Lewington, not to mention an excellent collection of photographs. After a number of introductory chapters covering subjects such as life history, field techniques and some interesting short ‘regional guides’, the 47 species are dealt with in detail. Whilst about half of these are the more familiar conspicuous species such as the Seven-spot and Harlequin Ladybirds, more experienced naturalists will also find much of value in the coverage of the smaller, more inconspicuous species. In addition, the often-distinctive larvae and pupae of the larger species are also well-covered.

The guide is highly recommended to anyone wanting to learn more about this charismatic group, and might even lead you on to a deeper interest in beetles in general.
