Britain's Day-flying Moths: a Field Guide to the Day-flying Moths of Britain and Ireland

What is the difference between a moth and a butterfly? To many the answer is simple, moths fly at night, butterflies during the day. This is not the whole story, however – there is a whole range of moths that fly in daylight hours and many are also brightly coloured. Whilst there are many ID guides out there for the popular butterflies, day-flying moths are rather under-represented, so this is a very welcome addition to the field.

As is usual with the WildGuides books, this is a well-thought and user-friendly guide. Covering all of the day-flying species, from the very familiar Silver Y and burnet moths to some very rare or possibly extinct species indeed, each species is given a page, with at least one colour photograph, map, description and fact panel (including useful info on potential confusion species). There is a really useful summary table at the back, giving instant access to information such as habitat, flight period and larval foodplant. Highly recommended.
