BirdTrack received Spotted Crake records from 8 locations during the 2012 breeding season, which made a valuable contribution to the RSPB-organised Spotted Crake survey. In comparison, August–mid September has seen records from 17 locations, including this beautifully-photographed one at Greylake RSPB, Somerset. Whilst the Spotted Crake reporting rate is 'messy' due to the low number of sightings, it does show the early autumn peak in records. A much rarer crake, Baillon's, was discovered singing at several crake survey sites; so far there has been just one autumn record, at Rainham Marshes.
