October bird news can easily become dominated by rarities as vagrants reach the UK from all points of the compass. This week, however, one of the most impressive events has been the movement of more common species, with high counts of species like Goldfinch, Chaffinch and Meadow Pipit flagging up in BirdTrack. The high pressure currently sitting over Scandinavia and the light easterly winds forecast for the next few days should ensure we see more common migrants flooding through the country over the weekend and in to next week.
