Martin still by watercourse

Martin has now been close to the watercourse he initially found in the Central African Republic for three weeks, and has been making short feeding forays along its banks.
Kasper staying put

The latest message from Kasper shows that he is still in the Bayan Dutsin Forest Reserve, and making very short feeding forays around his immediate vicinity.
Clement still in Nigeria

Signals received from Clement show that he is alive and well, and still in the area to the north-west of the Yankari Game Reserve.
Lyster heading back north!

A message received from Lyster at 06.01 on 13 September, showed he had moved 40km north-east from his previous position, towards the border with Mauritania. However, we received a message from him at 20.53 on 15 September which showed he had re-traced his steps back to the south-west and is now 25km from where he was on the 13th. Maybe on his way north he passed through an area that was more suitable than the one he arrived in and decided to head back there.
His local weather today is sunny and dry with a light south-westerly wind and a temperature of 25°C.
Lyster following in Clement’s footsteps

We received a transmission from Lyster at 05.00 yesterday morning. He is now 2km south-east of Sirakoro in Mali, 470km from his last position in Senegal. He appears to be following in Clement’s footsteps, heading east towards the other four cuckoos. The landscape around Sirakoro is mostly a mosaic of cropland, forest and sub-tropical steppe.
The weather today is dry and sunny with a chance of thunderstorms later, and a hot 30°C. The next few days will be cloudy with some heavy thunderstorms.
Clement moved east fairly quickly to join the other cuckoos, it will be interesting to see if Lyster does the same.
Lyster lies low

Lyster is still in the great Senegal river plain, close the border with Mauritania. He has been settled in this area since 30 August and has presumably found a better feeding area than in his initial Senegalese location further south. Once he has rested and fed he might well follow in Clement’s footsteps. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see how closely his route follows that of Clement.
Chris in no hurry to move

Chris looks to be well settled in southern Chad, he has been in the same area since 9 August. Having successfully crossed the Sahara he will be in no hurry to move. The onset of the dry season at the end of the month might change this though.
Clement content for now

Clement is still in the area to the north-west of the Yankari Game Reserve, Nigeria. The area is comprised of savannah grassland, patches of well-developed woodland and rolling hills. The rainy season runs from May to September. Presumably, Clement is finding plenty of food here; this might change with the onset of the dry season at the end of the month.
Kasper wintering in Nigeria?

Kasper is still in the Bayan Dutsin Forest Reserve, Nigeria, the area he has frequented since 9 August. Like Clement, he must be finding plenty of food and the local conditions to his liking. Could both of these birds spend the winter here?
