Larry's incredible migration
Unnamed Cuckoo 161322
Cuckoo 161322 is the only Cuckoo to be tagged in the Norfolk Broads in 2016. He was caught and tagged at Hardley Flood, Norfolk, on 11 June and has been in the area ever since. His last location on 22 June placed him 2km (1.3 miles) to the north of Hardley Flood and in the area of Cantley Marshes.
Markoo the Cuckoo
During the early morning of 10 June, Markoos was caught and tagged in King's Forest, Suffolk. He has hardly moved out of the forest since, although he has ventured into farmland on the western edge of the forest, and he is currently on the northwestern edge of the forest.
PJ
PJ was tagged on 7 June 2016 in King's Forest, Suffolk. Since then he has remained largely in the area of the forest, although he has ventured north into Thetford Forest, on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, and east into Norfolk to the area of forest between Thetford and Diss. He is currently back in Suffolk and on the southern edge of Thetford Forest, very close to Elveden.
Unnamed Cuckoo 161324
Cuckoo 161324 joined the 2016 Cuckoos on 10 June when his tag was deployed in King's Forest, Suffolk, close to North Stow. He remained in the area, heading north into Thetford Forest and even visiting the BTO's Nunnery Lakes nature reserve until 25 June, when a location recieved from his tag told us that he had crossed the English Channel and was in northeast France, just south of Calais.
Jack
Jack, tagged in the New Forest, Hampshire, joined the 2016 Cuckoos on the 10 June. To date he hasn't moved out of the forest but has been busy covering most of it, from Beaulieu in the east to New Milton in the southwest. He is currently on the northeast edge of the forest close to West Wellow.
Cuckoo Bill
Bill was tagged in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, on 3 June but by the early morning on 5 June he was already in Buckinghamshire, close to Tring, the location of the BTO's former headquarters. He didn't stay here long and locations received from his tag during the early afternoon of 7 June showed that he had already left the UK and was in Normandy, France, checking out patches of woodland close to the town of La Trotterie. On the evening of 22 June this was still his location, 534km (331 miles) south of Sherwood Forest.
New Cuckoo 161319 is on his way
Tagged on 8 June on Dartmoor, Devon, Cuckoo 161319 spent a further 10 days or so on Dartmoor before heading south. Locations received from his tag around Breakfast on 18 June showed that he was just south of Le Mans in central France. By breakfast on 20 June he had reached Lyons in southeast France and was 842km (523 miles) southeast of Dartmoor.
