CES in 2012
Our dedicated ringers have been taking on the elements to help us all know what is happening to the birds during this unprecedented summer. The continued collection of monitoring data through such periods is vital, both for the continuity of the long term trends and to provide information on the impacts of extreme weather events, and we are very grateful to everyone for the additional efforts they have made in 2012.

During the past few weeks we've heard from many ringers - follow the links to the right to read, in their own words, their viewpoint of their recent CES experience. Thanks to their determination many have navigated themselves through the ever changing weather forecasts in order to get CES visits in. The results will be exceptionally interesting for this year - early indications are late arriving summer migrants and low number of juveniles at most (but not all) sites. We wait to see whether birds whose nests have been washed or blown away have successful second (or even third or fourth) nesting attempts and lead to juveniles being caught on the CES sites. |
Even those ringers who have found themselves with flooded sites and impossible weather are expressing their determination to rise again and be ready for the 2013 CES season. We all hope for a better breeding season next year.
