Reptile and amphibian species codes

A small number of reptile and amphibian species can be recorded through Garden BirdWatch. While online users can use the relevant tab on their data entry form, those using paper forms will need to know the species code to use. 'Common' species are those most likely to be encountered in a garden setting. 'Uncommon' species are those more likely to be encountered in the wider countryside and 'Rare' species are those that are rare even in the wider countryside. A number of introduced species have established small populations in some parts of the country and these are listed as 'Non-native'. Pool Frog, a former native now extinct, has been reintroduced at a site in East Anglia; it may also occur as a 'non-native' introduction.
