170435 settled close to Venice

Locations received from 170435's tag show that he is settled close to the Piave River between Fossalta di Piave and San Dona di Piave. Looking on Google Earth the banks of the river have small areas of riverine woodland. This could prove to be 170435's staging area in preparation for his desert crossing.

170434 heads further south

After spending a few days close to Paris, Cuckoo 170434 headed south, arriving in southeast France on 26 June and stopping for four days close to Lyon before heading east into Italy. He is currently in an area of woodland just north of Malpensa airport on the northern edge of the Po valley.

170433 in Spain

Since we last heard from Cuckoo 170433 he has continued his journey south and has crossed the Pyrenees into Spain. He is currently in wooded habitat on the banks fo the river Salazar and close to the town of Rocaforte, 39km (24 miles) southeast of Pamplona.

Peckham getting ready to leave?

Peckham has left his breeding grounds and as of the evening of 28 June was just south of Nottingham. Might he be the next to leave?  

Selborne moves further south

On the 24th June, Selborne was picked up heading south from his previous tracked location in the Basque region of Northern Spain. He is currently in a wooded valley south of Arevalo, Central Spain. This is 287km (178 miles) south west of Bilbao, and 1,528km (950 miles) south of his summer location in the New Forest, Hampshire.

PJ crosses the Channel

PJ has started his migration towards Africa for the winter. He left his breeding territory in Thetford Forest on the Norfolk/Suffolk border on the 24th June stopping over in NE France. He is currently in woodland west of Lachaussee, 525km (326 miles) southeast of his summer location.

170435 continues to Italy

By the early hours of 23 June, Cuckoo 170435's tag was sending signals from southwest Germany, roughly 20km (12 miles) south-west of the city of Mannheim, which sits on the Rhine and Neckar rivers. He was 775 km (480 miles) from his breeding grounds in Nottingham. Signals received yesterday reveal that he has continued southwards and by early evening was in Italy, north of the Venetian Lagoon and not far from the City of Venice.  

170434 near Paris

By the afternoon of the 23 June, Cuckoo 170434 had arrived at a location roughly 50km (30 miles) from the centre of Paris, having traveled around 340km (210 miles) from the New Forest.

170432 ahead of the rest

Another of our new birds is on their journey to Africa. From Chicester Harbour, Sussex, Cuckoo 170432 had reached a location west of Poitiers, France by 17 June and a signal received on the 20 June showed that he hadn't hung around! He was just 80km (50 miles) west of the coast of Sicily!  This makes him the most southerly of the Cuckoos currently. We will have to wait for further signals to see where he made land! 

170433 in France

One of our newly tagged Cuckoos is already off and on their journey south. Having received signals from the Nord-Pas-De-Calais region on 11 June, Cuckoo 170433 was 475km (just under 300 miles) further south near Limoges, in southwest-central France when signals were received on 21 June.
