Chinese Pond Heron
Ardeola bacchus (Bonaparte, 1855)
1100
Family: Pelecaniformes > Ardeidae
A small but striking heron, normally found in south-east Asia.
Only the northerly component of this population is migratory, wintering to the south of the breeding range; that a couple of individuals have found their way to Britain is remarkable.
