Past events

Breckland Forest Marathon 2017, 2018 and 2019, Norfolk

runbreckland [at] btinternet.com (subject: Breckland%20Forest%20Marathon) (Run Breckland) organised the Breckland Forest Marathon, on the same day as the London Marathon, in 2017, 2018 and 2019 for those wishing for a more tranquil event. Starting from BTO's HQ in Thetford, Norfolk, runners could choose to run a full or half marathon through areas of Thetford Forest. In both years the event was a great success with profits from the event supporting BTO's work. The event has now outgrown the premises due to number of runners but will run in future years.

Brighton Marathon - A runner's view

Mark is a keen birder and took up one of BTO's places in the Brighton Marathon 2013.Not only that, he was doing a second marathon just eight days later! That deserves some praise! He said:

'The Brighton crowds turned out in force to support the marathon runners despite the cold wind, which promised to make the final leg along the seafront, one hard slog. Happily I was distracted from this thought by the smiling faces lining the start of the route through the town's streets. My own support crew (the wife, my parents, and my best mate and family) had done their homework and come prepared with banners and a full itinerary of points along the route to pop up and cheer me on (aka shout madly at me). And I was glad to have them as this was only the 1st of 2 marathons I was running in just 8 days so I took all the help I could get. The sun did manage to push its way through the clouds later on and lit up the finish line in the distance - a big help on that dreaded final leg. I also bore testament to this with an unexpected sunburnt head. I crossed the line in a blur (not in speed but in mental capacity) and boy, was I happy to get there; a combination of the heat and not drinking enough meant I didn't run the time I wanted, but I wasn't complaining. Half of my 52 mile challenge was over, I wasn't injured and £500 was on its way to the BTO as a result'.
