Clement stays in the French 'savanna'

27 Jun 2011

Clement remains in the wooded hills east of Toulon – the habitat here (zoom in and drag the yellow man in the top left hand corner of the map for a streetview photo of the area) is structurally reminiscent of the wooded savannas we expect him to live in once he returns to Africa. Presumably he is feeding himself up in the warm weather before continuing his journey to the south…

Martin back at tagging location

27 Jun 2011

Accurate fixes received for Martin on Saturday (25 June) evening show he was back precisely at the tagging location – just as we had been informed by Peter Allard on Friday!

No new locations for Chris

27 Jun 2011

We have not received any locations for Chris during the last two ‘on’ periods for his tag. We are currently investigating whether his tag is functioning correctly and hope to have more news later in the week.

Lyster spotted at Hardley Marshes

27 Jun 2011

Lyster is still in the Reedham area – however, he is now also spending some time about 5km (3 miles) to the south-west at Hardley Marshes near Loddon. We had accurate fixes for him there late last week and on Sunday evening Andy Jarrett reported a sighting of him here.

Chris remains near Maastricht

23 Jun 2011

On Wednesday morning Chris was still in the Netherlands 20km from Maastricht. He appears to have settled in an area of woodland between the towns of Sittard and Born.

Kasper in northern Italy!

23 Jun 2011

New positions for Kasper received this morning (23 June) showed he had moved a further 565km (353 miles) south-east since Monday morning! He is now in northern Italy between Parma and Venice a little to the east of the parts of Piedmont and Lombardy in which several BTO-ringed Cuckoos have been found.

He has now moved 1100km due south-east from the location at which he was tagged. The two places he stopped en route lie directly on this trajectory and he appears to have crossed the Alps in eastern Switzerland.

Lyster still in Norfolk

23 Jun 2011

On Tuesday (21 June) afternoon Lyster was still in the Reedham area.

Martin returns to Breydon Water

23 Jun 2011

The latest fixes for Martin (on Tuesday) were not very accurate but suggest he was probably still in the Runham area. However, this morning Peter Allard saw and photographed a Cuckoo with a satellite tag - back at the place where Martin was tagged adjacent to Breydon Water!

Peter says today is the first time a Cuckoo has been in the area for some time. This (see photo) must surely be Martin –and we await new positions later today that will hopefully tie in with this!

A BTO Cuckoo was spotted and photographed. In the second photo you can just see the aerial of the tag on the back of the Cuckoo, which is enlarged in picture 3. Photos by Peter Allard.

Clement remains in wooded hills

23 Jun 2011
The latest positions we have show that on Tuesday afternoon Clement was still in the wooded hills east of Toulon, just east of Collobrieres.

Kasper makes a long flight south

20 Jun 2011

Kasper has left the Antwerp area and by the morning of Monday (20 June) he was a further 300km (190 miles) south-east, on the border of France and Germany 45km (27 miles) south-east of Luxembourg. In the last ten days since leaving the location at which he was tagged he has moved 540km (336 miles) south-east.
