Updates on Larry 's movements

Larry's last stop

06 Aug 2019

On 3 August we received a further location from Larry’s tag showing that he had not moved from his reported position, in northern Libya. Unfortunately, there’s no way he could have survived for that long in the arid conditions so we must conclude that he has perished there.

This is especially sad news as he was our longest surviving active Cuckoo, having been tagged in 2015 and entering his fifth year of tracking.

David, first tracked in spring 2012, holds the title for longest tracked journey, having been tracked to mid-winter (December 2016) in his fifth year. Chris, our most famous Cuckoo, was in second place in regard to length and duration of tracked journey, with his last signal on 8 August 2015 in his fifth year.  Larry was just one successful desert crossing away from surpassing Chris, who also perished during his desert crossing, but had reached the Tibesti mountains in Northern Chad.

We are grateful to everyone who has supported Larry over the years and watched his incredible journey.

Larry is in Libya

29 Jul 2019
Over the last few days Larry has departed Italy, crossed the Mediterranean and arrived in Libya. This is the fifth southern migration we have tracked Larry over and in all previous years he has passed through Libya, enroute to Chad where he usually makes his post-desert stop-off. If Larry successfully navigates the desert this time he will overtake Chris as our longest-serving Cuckoo.

Larry crosses into Italy

12 Jul 2019
Data received from Larry's tag at 5am this morning showed that he had left his last known location in Croatia and flown 412 km (256 miles) south to southern Italy. He is now 80 km (50 miles) east of Naples, between Lioni and Vallata. Larry was tagged in 2015 and based on his movements in previous years we might expect him to stay in Italy until late July/early August when he is likely to fly directly across the Sahara to a stopover site in Chad.

Larry in Croatia

03 Jul 2019
Larry has made a huge movement south and is already in Croatia, where he has stopped over in previous years. Looking back over his journeys, this is pretty much on schedule. Transmissions on the morning of 30 June show him over the sea, off the west coast of Rijeka. His last transmission from the UK was around lunchtime on 25 June meaning he covered over 1385 km (860 miles) in about 4 and a half days. He could be heading towards the island of Cres, where he has spent time in previous years, before then heading south into Italy later in July, and then embarking on his desert crossing over Libya to Chad in August.

Whispers from Larry's tag

27 Jun 2019

Poor quality signals on lunchtime of the 25 June indicate that Larry had moved south and was north-west of Peterborough. We were expecting to see further transmissions today which might show some movements but nothing has been received as yet. We hope to receive something in the next couple of days which reveals his new location.

Larry still settled

19 Jun 2019
Since his arrival on his breeding site in Bowland, Larry has been pretty much settled in the area around Stocks Reservoir. During the last four years he has left Britain between June 20 and June 27 - he could be on his way any day now.

Larry looks busy

04 Jun 2019
Since he has been back in the Forest of Bowland Larry has been moving around his breeding site a lot. Whether this is because he is looking for female Cuckoos, or chasing female Cuckoos we don't really know but he is visiting every corner of his territory. In previous years Larry's departure date for his flight back to Africa have been 27 June, 2015, 24 June 2016, 20 June 2017 and 23 June 2018, so it looks like he will be around the Forest of Bowland for at least a couple of more weeks.

Larry is home again!

29 Apr 2019
We last heard from Larry on April 14 when he was in northern Algeria. An update received from Larry’s tag at 05:48 Sunday morning (28 April) showed that he had covered 2,035 Km (1,264 miles) and is now back at his breeding grounds in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire. Larry was tagged here in June 2015 so his successful return means he has now completed four full migration loops from Lancashire to his wintering grounds in Angola and back again. In completing each of his loops he covered approximately 16,000 Km (9,940 miles) so we have followed him over at least 64,000 Km (39,770 miles) – what a bird!

Larry is on his way back

11 Apr 2019
Larry has crossed the desert. He is 3,003km (1,866 miles) north and east of his last location in the Guinea Highlands and has crossed the desert at its widest point. He is currently in the Atlas Saharien Mountains in northern Algeria and close to the desert town of Brida. Fingers crossed, Larry will make it back to the UK and complete his fourth migration cycle since he was fitted with a satellite tag in June 2015.

Larry is back

15 Mar 2019
Having not heard from Larry for the last four weeks we were beginning to wonder what had happened to him; well know we know. During the evening of 14 March he popped up in Guinea, almost 3,000km (2,000 miles) from his last known location in Congo. He is now further west than any of our tagged Cuckoos and currently in the Guinea Highlands to the southest of the village of Boutoudou. He is now 5,000km (3,000 miles) from his breeding area in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire. He arrived back in the UK on 8 May in 2018 and on 4 May in 2017.

Where’s Larry?

11 Mar 2019

We haven’t heard from Larry since 21 February but at the time the data we got from his tag showed that he was alive and that the battery charge on the tag was OK. All we can do is hope that he will ‘pop-up’ again soon.

Still no confirmation from Larry

25 Feb 2019

Even though the locations we are getting from Larry’s tag are of poor quality they all show him the rainforest to the north of the Teke Plateau in northern Congo, so we are sure this is where he is. Once he pops out of the dense rainforest we should begin to receive better quality locations.

Larry on the move?

11 Feb 2019
We received a couple of poor locations from Larry's tag that show him to the north of the Teke Plateau in dense rainforest. However, like the last time we heard from him we will have to wait for better quality locations to confirm this.

Larry on the move?

29 Jan 2019
During the last couple of days we received a series of locations from Larry's tag that show him on the Teke Plateau, Congo, 522km (324 miles) north of his mid-winter location in Angola. We will have to wait for some better locations to confirm this and for it to appear on his map, but it does look like Larry is on his way back.

Larry settled

03 Jan 2019
Larry hasn't moved much since mid-December, other than short distances. He is currently around 50km (30 miles) from the coastal town of N'zeto, Angola.

Larry settled

20 Dec 2018
Larry hasn't moved much during tha last couple of weeks but data from his tag shows that he is alive and well. He is one of four tagged Cuckoos that are wintering within a 30 mile radius in the same area of forest in Angola. The other three are Lambert, Knepp and PJ.

Larry has made it

11 Dec 2018
For the fourth time since his tag was fitted, Larry has made it to his winter location in Angola. He is currently just under 200km (just over 100 miles) northeast of Luanda and in an area of forest he has used several times before. He is one of five of our tagged Cuckoos that are currently in Angola. During his time wearing a tag he has travelled in excess of 56,000km (35,000 miles).

Larry settled in the rainforest

30 Nov 2018
Larry is still settled in the DRC, in the rainforest to the east of Lake Mai. He is in particularly dense rainforest and not moving very far between fixes. In 2015 he left the rainforest for his mid-winter site in Angola on 6 November. In 2016 and 2017 he did the same on 13 October and 12 November respectively. With this in mind he could move south and west any day.

Larry has popped-up

14 Nov 2018
During the last few days we received a series of locations from Larry's tag that shows he is alive and well and is in the Congo rainforest just to the east of Lac Mai - Ndombe.

Larry has made it to Congo

19 Oct 2018
Having reported on 27 September that Larry was settled in Chad we then received a single location from his tag on 30 September showing that he had moved and was in Congo, just to the north of the Teke plateau. We haven't heard from his tag since. Looking at some of the data we receive from the tag, we can see that he was alive when we last heard from him but that the battery charge was very low. We hope that it is just a case of him being underneath the canopy of the forest and that the solar panel on the tag isn't getting much sunlight. Fingers crossed, he will 'pop-up' once the battery gets a better charge.

Larry still settled in Chad

27 Sep 2018
Larry has been settled in his post-desert stopover site for two months. In 2016 he moved south into the Congo basin on 29 Sept. However, in 2017 he didn't leave until 9 November. It will be interesting to see what he does this year.

Larry still in Chad

23 Aug 2018
Larry is currently the most easterly of our tagged Cuckoos. Since crossing the desert at the end of July he has been settled in an area of forest in southern Chad.

Larry has made it

30 Jul 2018
Around 5pm on 28 July Larry's tag showed that he had successfully crossed the desert. He is currently around 200km (125 miles) north of the stopover site he used in southern Chad in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Larry is alive!

27 Jul 2018

We were getting quite concerned about Larry. Having not heard from his tag for 11 days we were beginning to fear the worst but did also consider that the battery that powers his tag might not be getting a very good charge. The island of Cres, his stopover site in Croatia, is very wooded and he was almost certainly spending time under the canopy feeding. However, we now know that Larry is alive and well and crossing the Sahara.

Larry is on his fourth migration since he was fitted with his tag in 2015. he seems to time his desert crossing for the last week in July, and is normally on the southern edge of the desert in the first few days of August. This year he seems to be timing things perfectly again. His tag stopped transmitting around breakfast on 26 July, it will be powered down for 48 hours to allow the solar panel to charge the onboard battery and then power up again around breakfast on 28 July. It will be interesting to see where he is when this happens.

Amazing movement from Larry

26 Jun 2018
On the evening of 20 June, Larry was still at his tagging site in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire. On the evening of 22 June he was 1,554km (964 miles) south east of that location and in Slovenia. Having moved a little further south since, he is currenlty on the Croatian island of Cres. He stopped here in 2017, arriving on 22 June, this year he arrived there a day later. In 2017 he remained on the island until 17 July before moving to southern Italy.

Larry still in Bowland

20 Jun 2018
Since arriving back in the UK on 8 May, Larry has remained faithful to his tagging site in the Forest of Bowland. With some of our Cuckoos now in France, Larry could leave any day now.

Larry returns

09 May 2018
From west of Barcelona on the 30 April, Larry has flown 1390km (865 miles) to return to the Forest of Bowland, in north-east Lancashire by the early hours of 8 May.  He is now back in the area in which he was tagged and will be looking for female Cuckoos to breed with.

Larry safely across

26 Apr 2018
On 26 April Larry's tag transmitted signals indicating that he has safely completed his desert crossing. From Algeria on the 22 April, Larry covered a further 1520km (945 miles), crossing the ocean, to reach north-eastern Spain. He is north of Agramunt in Catalonia.

Larry crossing the desert

24 Apr 2018
Larry is on his way! Signals  received on the 22 April show Larry in Algeria, mid-way through his desert crossing! He is the fourth of our tagged Cuckoo to cross the desert. Hopefully we will find out shortly if he has made it safely across.

Larry in Ivory Coast

06 Apr 2018
Larry has moved west and is currently in Ivory Coast, close to the border with Ghana. Looking at previous years we have no idea where Larry will launch his desert crossing from, two years ago he crossed from Nigeria and last year from Guinea. With any luck we should find out in the next week or so. Watch this space.

Larry leaves Republic of Congo

28 Feb 2018
Larry has continued on northwards, leaving the Republic of Congo, and heading over the border into the Central African Republic. He has travelled 300km (185 miles) and is on the northern edge of the Dzanga-Sangha National Park. In previous years he has moved into West Africa during March. The first year we tracked him he made his desert crossing from Nigeria in April, but the second year he moved much further west, into Guinea, and crossed from there. What will he do this year?

Larry moves north within Congo

15 Feb 2018
Larry has moved a further 280km (175 miles) northwards within Congo. He is now in the Odzala-Kokoua National Park, an area that Victor has just left. This is an area that Larry didn't use on the first migration we followed but discovered when heading south in October 2016, and again made use of for a few weeks in February 2017 on his northward migration, before heading into Cameroon.

Cuckoos on the move north

02 Feb 2018

Two more Cuckoos have begun their journeys northwards from their wintering locations. From Angola, Larry has flown 675km (420 miles) north east to Central Congo. He is now to the north-east of Okoyo. This is similar to what he has done in the previous two years, before moving into Cameroon and then on to west Africa. In the first year he then made his desert crossing from Nigeria, but in the second year that we tracked him he went much further west - crossing the desert from Guinea! What will he do this year?

Selborne has also headed north and is now in northern Gabon, close to the coast, and the Reserva Natural del Estuario del Muniborder, a Wetland of International Importance. He is just south of the border with Equatorial Guinea, and has travelled 350km (218 miles) from his previous location.

Larry in Angola

14 Nov 2017

Larry has continued south from Chad, where he's been since the beginning of September. By the 9 November he had covered 1175km (730 miles) to reach the Cuvette-Ouest region of Congo, not too far south-east from Victor in Gabon. He didn't stop here for long though and by the early afternoon of 11 November he was 760km (470 miles) further south in northern Angola.

Larry’s southward migration from the UK to Angola has been remarkable. Weather conditions during the stopover period in Italy were harsh, incredibly hot and dry conditions were experienced across the whole of the northern Mediterranean area with wildfires being a feature from Spain to Croatia. Presumably in response to these conditions, and the probable lack of invertebrate food, Larry moved north to Poland, undertaking a journey of around 1300km (800 miles), at a time when we would have expected him to head south across the Sahara. Larry spent several weeks in Poland, and it would seem a wise move, from here he was able to undertake his migration to sub-Saharan Africa via the Balkans, a part of the world we hadn’t seen him move through before. Even though his migration this autumn was unusual, he is right back at his wintering location in Angola.

In the previous two years we've been following him he has also ventured to Angola, but normally to a location in the north-east, where he has remained for a while before then heading west towards the coast. He appears to have gone directly to this area now and is north of Tomboco. It's likely that, as in previous years, he will remain here until at least mid-December or possibly even mid-January, depending on conditions.

Larry remains in Chad

11 Oct 2017
Larry has remained in Chad since he arrived there at the end of August, moving only a short distance further south at the beginning of September.

Larry completes desert crossing

29 Aug 2017
Signals on the the 23 August showed Larry in Egypt but it wasn't until the 27 that we received a poor signal, this time from central Chad revealing that Larry had probably completed his desert crossing. However we were further reassured when a series of signals were received on the 30 August to show that he had continued 210km (130 miles) south west within Chad revealing all was well after his long journey.

Larry in Egypt

24 Aug 2017
Signals received early on the morning of 23 August show that Larry is now crossing the desert! His location was western Egypt, close to the border with Libya, and was 2080km (1300 miles) south east of his last position in Montenegro. His location in Egypt is very far east compared to many of the routes taken by our Cuckoos since the project began with only Lloyd (in 2012) and Viator (in 2015) having ventured this far east. Lloyd went on to winter in the heart of the Congo rainforest while Viator perished a little further south, in Sudan, and did not complete his desert crossing. We wondered at the time whether this was possibly due to the wet summer which may have impacted on his migration preparation. We hope that the next signals we receive from Larry's tag show that he has successfully completed his desert crossing!

Larry in Montenegro

22 Aug 2017
On 16 August Larry was still transmitting from Poland but by the morning of the 18 August he was 700km (430 miles) to the south in eastern Croatia. A good signal on the afternoon of 20 put him further south still, this time in Montenegro, 265km (165 miles) on from this location in Croatia.  He is just north of the Biogradska Gora National Park, a mountainous region with many lakes.

Larry really is in Poland!

01 Aug 2017

We've seen several of our birds back track to previous stopover sites when conditions haven't been perfect for onward travel, but Larry has undertaken a journey from Italy northwards to Poland, a country in which he hasn't transmitted from since we've been tracking him. In fact none of our Cuckoos, since the project began in 2011, have ever sent signals from Poland.  This is much further northeast within Europe than normal and almost puts him on the same latitude as Peckham who is still in the UK!

We think this is in response to the very hot conditions in the Mediterranean region and is an escape flight rather than a return to last stopover site. We're surprised to have seen him travel so far north. Tracking these Cuckoos still continues to throw new light upon their migration!

Where is Larry?

26 Jul 2017
The area of southern Italy, from where Larry has been transmitting recently, has been exceptionally dry this year - more so even than normally. He's used this site, which is much further south than other cuckoo stopovers, in the previous two autumns and we were surprised when he first stopped off here. The most recent signals we received show a poor quality location in Poland, but we aren't yet sure whether this is a true movement, and a reflection on these dry conditions. We await more information that will allow us to confirm his location.

Larry still in Croatia

07 Jul 2017
Larry is still settled in the south of the island of Cres, close to the village of Punta Kriza. We don't expect him to use this area as his stopover site, his usual site is 140km (87 miles) further south, just to the south of Lake Vrana.

Larry in Croatia

22 Jun 2017
Larry has left France. By the afternoon of 22 June had travelled 890km (550 miles). and signals revealed that he was on the island of Punta Križa, off the coast of Croatia. This is several weeks earlier than he visited Croatia last year. In fact, at this time last year, Larry was still at his tagging site before then moving on to Hungary by 24 June and then to Croatia in July, but further south than he is currently.

Larry is the third Cuckoo to leave

20 Jun 2017
Transmissions show that by the evening of the 19 June, Larry was the third of our tagged Cuckoos to have left the UK. Signals revealed he was 85km (50 miles) east of Reims, between the communes of Septsarges and Dannevouxis in the department of Meuse, France. Larry spent around six weeks in the UK before departing.

Larry settled in the Forest of Bowland

23 May 2017
Larry is visiting all parts of the Forest of Bowland but is currently focussing most of his attention on an area between Stocks Reservoir and Botton Head.

Larry back on breeding grounds

09 May 2017
Recent signals from Larry's tag show that he left the south coast and continued north to arrive back on his breeding grounds in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire by May 7.

Larry makes south coast

02 May 2017
From Spain, Larry has traveled around 905 km (565 miles) to arrive on the south coast of England by the afternoon of 1 May. He is currently located between Sidmouth and Exmouth near the Sawmill Reservoir, Yettington. He still has around 350km (220 miles) to go to reach his breeding grounds at the Forest of Bowland,Lancashire. He is the third of our tagged Cuckoos to return to the UK this year.

Larry heads to northern Spain

26 Apr 2017
From the Sierra Morenna Mountains Larry has traveled 460km (286 miles) northwards within Spain and is just north of Aras, a town in the Navarre region. Victor, the latest Cuckoo to have crossed the desert, is slightly further north than Larry and is in France. Who will be the next Cuckoo to make it back to their breeding grounds?

Larry completes desert crossing

20 Apr 2017
Signals on the 19 April showed that Larry had successfully completed his desert crossing and was north of the Sienna Morena Mountain range in the Castile-La Mancha region of Spain. He has travelled 2713km (1685 miles) since the last poor transmissions on 17 April in Mauritania. He is the third of our tagged Cuckoos to successfully cross the desert this spring.

Larry crossing the desert

18 Apr 2017
A series of poor locations received from Larry's tag during the early evening of 17 April show that he had embarked on his desert crossing, and was heading north through central Mauritania. We will have to wait until the evening of 19 April (the time when his tag should give locations again) to see if he has been successful. Right now this part of the desert is enjoying light southerly winds, which should help Larry on his way.

Larry still in Guinea

11 Apr 2017
Larry is still in Guinea. He arrived here a week ago and we would expect him to remain here for a little while longer, preparing for his desert crossing.

Larry in Guinea

04 Apr 2017
Larry has travelled even further west and is now in Guinea. He's in an area just south of the National Park of Upper Niger.  We would expect him to leave in the next week or so. Will he be the next Cuckoo to arrive in Europe?

Larry in Ivory Coast

27 Mar 2017
After a few days rest, Larry has continued on his journey west. locations received from his tag on 26 March show that he has crossed into Ivory Coast. He is currently in an area of forest west of the Komoe River.

Larry going for it

20 Mar 2017
Larry really isn't hanging around. In the last ten days he has travelled 1,257 km (780 miles) from eastern Nigeria to Ghana. He is currently in western Ghana on the southern edge of the Amama Shelterbelt Forest Reserve. It will be interesting to see how long he stays here as he will now have to rest, feed-up and store fat to fuel his journey north across the Sahara.

Larry moves further west

14 Mar 2017
Larry didn't hang around in Cameroon, a series of locations received from his tag on 10 March showed that he had crossed the border into Nigeria. By the 12 March he had travelled a further 610km (379 miles) and was close to Nigeria's western border. He is currently in the south-eastern corner of Old Oyo National Park.

Larry moving west

06 Mar 2017
Larry has begun his journey back to the UK and is currently in Cameroon, just west of the town of Abong Mbang on the northern bank of the Nyong River.

Larry moves north and east

17 Jan 2017
Larry has left his mid-winter location in Angola and has moved north and west into DRC and the Congo rainforest. He will probably stay here for a month or so, feeding up to fuel his move into West Africa sometime in February.

Larry and Bill in the same area

06 Dec 2016
Of the four Cuckoos in Angola, Larry and Bill are now only a few miles apart, after small southwards movement from Bill throughout November.

Larry heads towards the coast of Angola

09 Nov 2016
By the 14 October Larry was in the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo, close to the border with Angola. A week later and he had crossed over the border and was in Angola itself, north of Cuale. The next good signal we received was 333km (207 miles) to the west, and slightly north, which shows Larry heading in the direction of the Angolan coastline.  He is currently about 42km (26 miles) inland from N'zeto.

Larry leading the way

04 Oct 2016
A location received on 26 September showed Larry close to the border of Chad and Central African Republic, but by the evening of 28 September he had cross CAR and was in Congo, just north of the Equator. Three locations received during the early morning on 1 October showed that he had crossed the Equator. He is currently in forest close to Ekoungounou. His mid-winter location in 2015 was in northern Angola, a further 750km (465 miles) south of where he is at present.

Larry still settled

19 Sep 2016
Larry is still in his southern Chad stopover site.

No movement from Larry

06 Sep 2016
Larry is still settled in the forest in southern Chad, and could be for at least another month or so. It is currently warm, 27 degrees, and wet with a humidity of 75%, perfect for the invertebrates that Larry will be seeking out.

Larry settled in Chad

26 Aug 2016
Since arriving in Chad Larry has been settled in the area in southern Chad close to the Manda National Park, presumably resting and feeding after his desert crossing. He used this stopover last year, leaving it on 10 October.

Larry has crossed the desert

11 Aug 2016
Larry has successfully crossed the Sahara and is currently in southern Chad, close to the Manda National Park.

Larry crossing the desert

02 Aug 2016
A signal received from Larry's tag at 7:20pm on 31st July placed him in southern Libya, on the northern edge of the Tibesti mountains. He seems to be taking a very similar route to last year when his crossing took him to Chad. Hopefully the next transmission from Larry's tag will show that he has successfully crossed the Sahara.

Larry in southern Italy

12 Jul 2016
Larry has left the heatwave in Croatia and has the crossed the Adriatic to southern Italy. The temprature here is a somewhat cooler - 30 degrees centigrade. Larry took the same route last year. From here we expect him to cross the Mediterranean to Libya and head across the desert towards Lake Chad.

Larry in Croatia

08 Jul 2016

Larry spent a week in Hungary before heading south and west into Croatia. During his southerly migration in 2015 he stopped off in the same area, close to the town of Bogatic. This part of Croatia is currently experiencing a heatwave, with the daytime temperature forcast to get close to 40 degrees C during the next few days. It might be that Larry spends more time in the shade, so we might see a lull in the locations received from his tag as the solar panel on the tag gets less sunlight to charge the batteries.Only time will tell.

Larry's incredible migration

27 Jun 2016
On the evening of 21 June, Larry was still in Lancashire close to his tagging site but when we next heard from his tag during the early hours of 24 June, not only had he left Lancashire but he had departed the UK and crossed a large part of Europe. In just over 30 hours he had travelled 1,526km (971 miles). He is currently in Hungary just south of a small village called Narai and close to the border with Austria.

Larry still in Lancashire

16 Jun 2016

Since arriving here on 4 May, Larry has remained in the area just north of Stocks Reservoir, very close to the location at which he was tagged on 3 June 2015.

Larry returns to Lancashire

06 May 2016

Larry only stayed in Norfolk for a very brief visit before setting off again and by the early hours of the 4th May, Larry was back in the Forest of Bowland. He left there on the 26th June last year so we expect him to stay in this area for the next six to eight weeks.

Larry in Norfolk

03 May 2016

Larry arrived back in England during the evening of 2 May, when a signal received from his tag placed him in the dunes at Burnham Overy Staithe. Only time will tell how long he stays here as he will be keen to get back to the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire, and begin the task of finding and chasing female Cuckoos.

Larry in Europe

18 Apr 2016

It looks like Larry began his desert crossing on 10 April from Nigeria, crossing the Sahara at its widest point, around 2,600km (1,600 miles). A poor location received during the morning of 15 April put him in the Grand Erg Oriental Desert in northern Algeria. Several good quality locations received during the evening of 17 April showed that he had made it across the desert and was on Sardinia, northeast of Paulilatino.

More locations from the early morning of 5 April show that he is still in the area of Nigeria he arrived in ten days earlier. He is currently just south of Old Oyo National Park and just over 100km (70 miles) from the border with Benin.

Larry in Africa

10 Aug 2015

By the early hours of the 8 August, Larry was in Chad, having made it to Africa, though some of you will have noticed an errant signal which appeared briefly on the map placing him to the east of Africa which has now been corrected!.  He is actually just south of the Tibesti Mountain area, where Peckham also stopped recently and raised concerns until we realised that the area had received rain and was probably a strategic stop rather than an indication anything was wrong. Hopefully we will shortly see Larry continue south after a brief rest as Peckham has done too.
