Sherwood still in Gabon?

04 Apr 2019
We haven't heard from Sherwood's tag for a couple of weeks. However, this isn't unusual when our Cuckoos are in dense forest. When we last heard from him his temperature was fine but the charge on his tag was low. Fingers crossed he will 'pop-up' soon, and it will be interesting to see where he is when he does.

Sherwood has moved into Gabon

18 Mar 2019

Sherwood has begun his journey west. During the last week he crossed the border into Gabon and is currently 120 km (75 miles) west of his last location in Congo. He is still in dense rainforest and in the Minkebe National Park.

Sherwood on the move

During the last few days Sherwood has moved north and east and has crossed the border into the Republic of the Congo. During this time he has travelled 145km (90 miles). He is just to the north of the Djoua River and the border with Gabon.

Sherwood still settled

Sherwood has been in the dense rainforest to the south of Minkebe National Park, Gabon for a month now. We are receiving lots of locations from his tag that show he has been moving short distances within the immediate area.

Sherwood further north

During the last week Sherwood has moved north and east within Gabon and is currently just to the south of Minkebe National Park, an area of dense rainforest. This latest flight has seen him cover 204km (127 miles).

Sherwood still moving north

18 Jan 2019
During the last few days Sherwood's tag shows that he has moved another 115km (71 miles) further north. He is now on the northern edge of the Lope National Park, Gabon, in an area of fairly dense forest.

Sherwood continues north

07 Jan 2019
During the last few days we have recieved locations from Sherwood's tag that shows he didn't stay on the southern border of Gabon for very long. In the early hours of 5 January his tag showed that he had travelled 286km (178 miles) north and west and was in central Gabon just to the south of Fougamou and close to the Ngounie River. Around breakfast on 7 January we recieved a series of low quality locations from his tag that show he hasn't hung around and has flown a further 134km (83 miles) north. This won't show on his map until we receive higher quality locations. This movement has seen him fly 420km (260 miles). Sherwood is on his way back.

Sherwood moving north

03 Jan 2019
During the early evening of New Year's eve Sherwood was flying north. He is now less than 2km (just over a mile) from the southern border of Gabon and in the northeast corner of the Conkouati Reserve. Could this 70km (44 miles) movement be the first leg of his long journey back to Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire? The journey back to Sherwood Forest via West Africa is 8,000km (5,000 miles) as the Cuckoo flies.

Sherwood moves south and west

17 Dec 2018
Having not moved very far since arriving in the Congo rainforest around a month ago, over the weekend Sherwood flew 150km (95 miles) south and west. He is now in the Conkouati Reserve.
