The specially protected species in the Republic of Ireland are detailed in the Wildlife Act 1976 and Wildlife (Amendment) Act 2000.

The BTO is not involved in the issue of disturbance licences in the Republic of Ireland.

Licenses are issued directly by the National Parks and Wildlife Service of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
