Small grebes in summer are gloriously-coloured birds, with three species encountered in the UK: Little Grebe, Black-necked Grebe and Slavonian Grebe. Black-necked and Slavonian Grebes are much less familiar than the more frequently-encountered Little Grebe, and poor light or partially-moulted birds can also cause some identification headaches.
Watch our identification video to learn how to separate these beautiful birds.
