Build your upland bird identification skills on a day's walk in the uplands. It will be supportive group training in an outdoor setting.
Join Steve Willis for an upland walk during which we will be practising our bird ID skills.
During this small-group event we will enjoy watching and listening to the birds as we pass through a range of habitats while ascending the hill.
There will be plenty of time to ask questions and pick up ID tips from your trainer and other participants. We'll particularly focus on improving our recognition of bird songs and calls.
The event will take place in the Ochil Hills near Stirling, starting from a small car park on a minor road (details will be sent to participants). There are no toilets, so please come prepared to 'go behind a bush' (leaving no trace, of course).
The walk will involve some ascent and descent, so participants will need to have a reasonable level of 'hill fitness'. Expect tracks and footpaths to be rocky underfoot in places.
The precise route and duration of the walk will depend on the weather and the birds we're seeing. The latest we'll return to the cars will be 4pm. Bring your own food and drink and please bring appropriate clothing for all conceivable weather conditions!
Note that there is a small charge for this session of £15* to help cover costs.
* the organisational rate for such sessions is £20. We are running these at reduced cost in areas of Scotland where we currently have relatively few volunteers in the hope of encouraging more people to attend, as an investment in future bird monitoring capacity.
