*** Unfortunately this course is now fully booked. Please check for availability on 23 or 24 November on the training courses page***

The training will consist of one online module, complemented by supported self-study exercises which will be provided after the session. The training will be run by BTO staff Nick Moran, Ben Darvill, Steve Willis and Ros Green, all experienced birdwatchers and surveyors.

This course complements two other courses that will run during autumn 2020: two-session courses on wildfowl identification and wader identification. Details of those courses can be found on our training courses page.

In order to participate you will need:

  • broadband of sufficient speed to view live video (we can carry out a test in advance if you are unsure)
  • a computer with sound and ideally a webcam, or a tablet/smartphone.

CONTENT: We will introduce various techniques for counting large groups of birds in a range of settings, and use interactive exercises for you to practice these skills. There will be an introducion to WeBS, with tips and hints to help you get started with this engaging survey. This course will not cover any aspects of identification.

COST: This one-session course is free of charge. If you need to brush up on your identification of wildfowl and/or waders, please consider attending one or both of the identification courses mentioned above.
